In this special workshop, held once a year, you'll learn how to make beautiful Hina dolls using Mizuhiki Japanese paper cord knots! The class will focus on teaching you three basic knots and creating a stunning Hina dolls frame to take home. Hina dolls are traditionally decorated for girls in Japan, symbolizing good health and growth for the family.
Don't worry if you're a beginner, this class is designed to be fun and relaxing. You'll be guided through the process of tying knots with Mizuhiki paper cords, with the opportunity to see how the knots can be used for earrings and gift decorations by Az.
During the class, you'll get hands-on experience working with Mizuhiki paper cords and learning traditional Japanese knot techniques. By the end of the workshop, you'll have your own unique Hina dolls frame that represents "tying the knot, " "paper anniversary, " and "good relationships."
Please note that the venue is a 60m walk from the street and has 8 steps (stairs). Get ready to have a great time while creating something special to cherish!

Hi, I'm Az. I'm an Interior Designer and a Japanese Mizuhiki artist.
What is Japanese Mizuhiki art?
Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese paper cord used originally for special occasions, such as engagement gifts from the groom's family to the bride's family, and for gift money envelopes. Yes, they are made of paper. The core of Mizuhiki cord is twisted paper and then dyed or wrapped with coloured thread, then knotted into shapes. It is also used to tie a Samurai’s and Sumo wrestler’s top knot! Today we use it for making jewellery and other beautiful objects.
I moved from Canberra to Perth in January 2023, and now my new art activities will be refreshed and am seeking further goals to share with more people. "Tie the knots" I also sell items from my Etsy store under the name happyJPdesigns.
