Join Sophie for a unique paint and sip class at a historic venue in Bayswater!
All you need to bring is your buddies and your favourite beer or wine. It doesn't matter if you've never picked up a brush, during a 2.5-hour paint session, you will create your own work of art!
You can either be guided through the process step by step or use paint and canvas to express your specific desire. Connect with your creativity while Sophie imparts industry tricks and secrets ensuring you get the best result.
Feel free to sip on your favourite drink and relax while you absorb the basic principles of colour theory, brush technique and composition.
By the end of the class, you'll walk away feeling relaxed, happy and proud, you'll be able to tell your art admirers which techniques you used in your work!
More details:
  • We paint En plein air on the gorgeous grounds, in beautiful weather. These workshops are a great way to kick off an afternoon/evening or to celebrate a special occasion. Choose from a variety of original designs capturing stylised WA flora and fauna. Book a session with the design you wish to paint.
  • While aprons are provided, acrylic paint does not wash out of material so keep this in mind when planning your ensemble. If you wear white, the paint will think you're a canvas and be naturally drawn to you. Flat shoes are recommended as we'll be working on grass.

I attained my Advanced Diploma in Environmental Art and Design in 2009. Since graduating I have worked for Arts entertainment organisations and Perth galleries including PICA. I maintain my own arts practice and my work has been featured in the UK and toured Egypt! Recently I won an award with Studio on Brunswick in Queensland.
I spent the last 3 years working for an Arts entertainment organisation where I hosted sessions for 30 - 50 people. I loved my interactions with people and seeing them become more confident with the materials at their disposal. With advice and encouragement, people were able to connect with their creativity and enjoy the process as well as their desired outcome.
I decided to branch out on my own because I didn't agree with the way these sessions were being run. Too many people in a session meant that people didn't have enough workspace, people couldn't see me at the front and they missed out on individual tuition from me. The venue was not accessible to all, I felt they excluded wheelchair users, pregnant people, older patrons or those with back issues. I endeavour to make my sessions safe, relaxed and happy for all.
My favourite part of teaching is witnessing the transformation in people throughout the session. A bit of advice from me allows them to flow with their own work. I never get tired of seeing diverse results when we're all working on the same image. Every individual brings their own sight and skilled hands to a piece and the results blow me away.
Last year UWA completed a study on the relationship between creative outlets and mental health. Making Art is scientifically proven to be good for your brain! This knowledge drives my style of teaching. It is about experiencing something joyous and soul nourishing. You can't make anything "bad" in my class, we're our own worst critics and if you're criticising your own work, I will point out all the bits I love and am responding to so you can see it!
