Solomon Kammer is a leading contemporary artist with an illustrious career marked by international exhibitions, including the world's most famous art fairs: Art Basel, Sydney Contemporary, and Asia Now Paris. Solomon has received major accolades such as the Creative Australia National Arts and Disability Early Career Award and is represented by prestigious international galleries. Their work has been selected for major national art prizes like the Archibald Prize and the Ramsay Art Prize.
Over the past few years, Solomon has run their highly acclaimed Oil Painting Masterclass Workshop seven times, now offered exclusively once per year. As a self-taught artist who found standardised teaching methods limiting, Solomon understands the importance of individualised learning, especially for those who think differently. Having personally experienced the intimidation that can come with learning new skills in traditional settings, Solomon has worked to cultivate a learning environment that is entirely supportive, free of judgement and competitiveness, and comfortable for making mistakes and learning at one's own pace. This insight has shaped their teaching philosophy, focusing on tailored, personalised instruction that allows each student to explore their potential and build their skills.
The workshop environment is professional yet intimate and fun, featuring stimulating music and offering one-on-one relationship building with Solomon, as well as afternoon wine and drinks to create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. Solomon fosters a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for diverse minds and backgrounds, ensuring that every participant feels supported.
Solomon believes that while an artist's style cannot be taught, mastering fundamental skills is crucial for creative freedom. "You have to learn the rules to be able to break the rules, " says Solomon, whose workshops are designed to equip students with these essential skills. With a decade of painting experience and expertise in portraiture and oil painting, Solomon's workshops offer an unparalleled opportunity for intimate learning with an industry leader. Past participants have achieved remarkable results, with some going on to have their works selected for major national art prizes.
