Following the successful happy day in November 2024, we are very excited to announce 2025 workshop in Adelaide!
It will be on 26th June (Thursday)
This is a unique collaboration workshop, Art Kintsugi Sydney with Eriko Takefuji---Adelaide-based Urasenke Chado instructor, to bring together two essential traditional Japanese practices based on wabi-sabi (Zen philosophy).
In this full-day workshop, you will be introduced to the history of Kintsugi and Chado (Japanese tea ceremony). In the first four hours you will learn the art of Kintsugi using modern accessible materials, followed by Chado demonstration and Matcha tea tasting with Japanese sweets.
Learn about Kintsugi
Kintsugi is a century-old Japanese craft where broken ceramic objects are pieced back together using Urushi lacquer and gold dust, an art of mending based on the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, finding beauty in imperfection, derived from Chado.
Learn about Chado
Japanese tea ceremony, the way of tea, is a spiritual and aesthetic training to refine oneself and to be present to one's mind and, most importantly, to make a satisfying bowl of tea for the guests.
Please note:

  • All tools and materials are prepared, including a ceramic piece to repair to suit the introductory workshop (Please do not bring your own piece to repair in the workshop).

Yoko Kawada
Designer/maker of homeware products including tile art of SQUARE+ROUND Basin, MONO Tray and collaboration work of Kintsugi with international artists and artisan.
I studied interior design in London late 1990 and established solo trade business as Yoko Kawada in 2016.
My design is influenced by multiple countries I have been in the past searching materials and creative process both in traditional way and with technology.
I started to practice Kintsugi a few years ago in Japan to incorporate its unique nature of the Japanese traditional craft into my design.
I run Kintsugi workshops to share the joy of learning this Japanese craft full of surprises and contradictions.
