Let your little artists dive into a world of creativity as they hand-paint their own ceramic piece! In this fun and interactive workshop, kids can choose from a selection of bisque items—such as a small cup, mug, plate, or bowl—and decorate it with underglaze colours. This hands-on class is perfect for kids who want to explore pottery without the mess of clay handling, and each piece will be ready for glazing and firing to create a unique, food-safe keepsake.
What’s Included:
  • Choice of bisque piece (small cup, mug, plate, or bowl) ready for decorating.
  • Guidance on painting techniques and underglaze usage, perfect for young beginners.
  • Basic materials and a selection of underglaze colours for creative freedom.
We’ll be working with underglaze, which kids will brush onto their chosen piece using a variety of techniques. They'll get to try out:
Stenciling for cool shapes and patterns
Masking tape to create unique designs and borders
Bubble underglazing for a bubbly, textured effect
Splashing for a playful, artistic look
Tissue transfers to help them transfer an image, like a cartoon character, onto their pottery
While I’m here to guide and introduce these techniques, please note that this is not a drawing or painting class on canvas, and I won’t be teaching how to draw or paint specific images (like flowers). However, kids are free to add any creative touches if they wish!
Pricing: The class is offered at a flat rate of $80 per person, which includes the bisque piece, studio time, and essential materials. Students may also choose to use additional underglaze colours or quantities for a small extra fee, which will be determined based on usage at the studio (typically ranging from $5-$15).
Perfect For: Kids ages 6+ who love art, creativity, and hands-on activities. This workshop is also ideal for birthday parties, family outings, or as a fun introduction to pottery.
Additional Information: Food and drinks are available for purchase at Morning Kiss. where the workshop is hosted. Morning kiss cafe is offering 10% off on food and drinks for students. We’ll handle all glazing and firing of the finished pieces, making them food-safe and durable. Finished pieces will be ready for pickup approximately 2-3 weeks after the class. Parents are welcome to join and help out!

My name is Shontal, I am a passionate ceramic artist based in Fortitude Valley, Australia. I was born in Jordan and moved to Australia in 2001.
My love for ceramics dates back to my childhood when I used to accompany my mother to ceramic classes in Jordan. My journey into the world of ceramics began in May 2021, starting with hand building techniques, but I soon found myself fascinated by the art of throwing on the wheel. Being so in love with pottery, I took the bold step of acquiring my own wheel and began perfecting my throwing skills at my home studio.
My dedication to mastering the art of ceramics led me to explore glazing techniques with a keen interest in Amaco and Maco glazes. While progressing in my pottery journey, I unexpectedly found myself drawn back to hand building, finding it to be an incredibly relaxing and therapeutic experience. Slab hand building became my canvas for crafting unique and beautiful designs, especially in creating captivating mugs. More recently, I have ventured into the realm of coil hand building, resulting in the creation of some stunning large bowls.
Initially, I attended various schools in Brisbane, such as Mas And Meik and Indooroopilly Ceramic Studios, to grasp the basics of ceramics. However, as my skills evolved, I took the initiative to self-educate myself further by exploring different techniques online.
Japanese pottery has captured my heart, and I have started incorporating the Japanese style into my ceramic creations. My artistic inclinations lean toward the allure of matte glazes, intriguing textures, and the art of stamping, carving, and utilizing the sodium silicate technique.
I prefer using white stoneware clay, which I skilfully enhance with Iron Oxide and Cobalt Oxide stains, adding depth and character to my pieces.
In summary, my artistic journey is one of passion, dedication, and continuous exploration. My ceramics beautifully showcase my love for Japanese influence, intriguing textures, and captivating glazing techniques. As I continue to evolve and innovate in my home studio, my work is sure to inspire and delight anyone who appreciates the beauty of handmade ceramics.
