Since childhood I have been curious about nature, its beauty and its mysteries. Always curious, I explored 2D art works but felt the need to understand how things are ‘put together’ in a more 3D sense, so I studied Jewellery Design at University of South Australia.
This sparked a lifelong journey into creativity and the desire to share this joy with others, so I studied Teaching at Flinders University and have been teaching in both Primary and High School, in mainly Design and Technology and Visual Arts for over 20 years.
Later my love of nature and need to create in a sustainable way lead me to fulfil Master of Sustainable Design also at University of South Australia. This deep knowledge underpins my focus on my entire practice.
I count 2013 as my award winning year! I won the SALA Jam Factory Design Award and the won the Gorgeous Festival Award, woohoo!
In 2021, I had a heartbreaking year where my capacity to function well as Primary school teacher had reached breaking point. I was lucky enough to live adjacent to the Aldinga Scrub and found myself there daily, drawing the gnarly trees as an immediate creative salve. That action of always asking ‘What next’ in my practice led me full circle back to the safe harbour of 2D work. I also chose to work part-time in High Schools only focusing in the Arts or Design and Technology.
I had a brief stint of offering classes to children and adults in the mid 2000’s and offered mark making classes at frolic and flo: mid-century breach shack at the beginning of 2024. I am super excited to begin offering classes to Mum’s and Daughters in collage as a way to deepen their bonds and to explore their creativity together.
