In this textiles class, you'll discover the amazing art of upcycling old t-shirts into unique textile sculptures. Over three Friday mornings, you'll learn the step-by-step process of creating these beautiful figurines that are sure to amaze your friends and family. Don't worry if you're a beginner, as this workshop is designed to nurture your creativity and guide you through the process. (Please note there is an option to do two sessions on your first Friday - thereby requiring only 2 fridays to finish your project).
During the class, you'll learn how to form build using plaster busts and everyday items. You'll have the opportunity to design your sculpture and 'dress' it using a fabric hardener and reclaimed textiles. Then, you'll enhance your creation by dry brushing with pigment colours of your choice. Plus, we work closely with your design ideas if required, and if you want to add your own special pieces like lace or found objects, jewellery, or memorabilia.
You'll have a choice of plaster busts from African, European, or Japanese styles, and work with your design ideas where possible, including adding your own special pieces like lace offcuts, found objects, jewellery elements, or family memorabilia, allowing you to personalise your sculpture even further. We do recommend using the bronze base and bronze metallic pigments to create a faux bronze statue, but other options are made available to you.
This workshop is perfect for absolute beginners, and all abilities are welcome. The class is NDIS friendly, and support workers are warmly welcomed to join you. The venue is accessible with a flat entry to the doorway, although please note that the onsite toilet has three small steps.
By dedicating time to fully enjoy the project over three Friday mornings, you'll have ample opportunity to explore your creativity. It's a great way to alleviate transportation and traffic concerns as the morning sessions are designed to be convenient.
Not only will you leave this textiles class with a fabulous upcycled sculpture, but you'll also be inspired for future art projects or garden art creations. The transformative nature of this class is truly remarkable, and your magnificent creation will be a perfect addition to your home or a thoughtful gift for a loved one. So come join us for a fun and creative experience that will leave you with a remarkable piece of art!
