Cute and Easy Doll Sewing Class

Create your own gorgeous doll in Maryborough!

6 hours Class size 1 to 10 guests

$140 (Afterpay available)
Fall in love with the art of sewing in this fun, hands-on class in Maryborough!
The day will start with learning all about the special techniques to use on the sewing machine, like sewing straight and tightly curved lines, and neatening seam edges with pinking shears. Once you are comfortable with this, we will move on to how to lay out your pattern and cut it out.
Then it’s on to putting your doll body together following the detailed pattern instructions. You will be guided through each step of this process, from working with haemostats and stuffing your doll to positioning templates and hand stitching.
Your teacher will also give you help in picking beautifully coordinating fabrics from those on offer, and we will discuss simple ideas to jazz up your designs with embellishments. The clothes are quick to make and once again, the instructions provided are very detailed.
By the end of the day, you'll leave with newfound sewing skills, a completed or partially complete doll body and clothes and ideas for future toys!
If you don’t have time to finish, you will have all the materials and instructions needed to complete the body and clothes after the class.
Note:
  • Due to copyright requirements, you are required to purchase your pattern for any of the full-sized dolls from the Studio Seren pattern range via the Studio Seren website. Patterns may not be shared between participants, and participants may not use patterns I have purchased from Studio Seren.
  • I have stipulated the full-sized dolls for this workshop as the smaller ones can be fiddlier due to their smaller size, and for the first one, a full-sized one will be more manageable.
Knowledge required
  • The class is suitable for beginner sewers, as long as you know how to use a sewing machine and sew a straight line but you will be able to pick up the other skills during the day.
  • More experienced sewers and those with hand embroidery skills will find this a suitable project too.
What you'll get
Materials required to make one full-sized doll from the Studio Seren range and access to all equipment used to create the doll.
  • Specialist doll needles, pinking shears and haemostats.
  • Sewing machines are available to use
  • A wide range of linen/cotton materials will be provided for the doll bodies, and cottons and blends for the clothes.
  • There are some organic cotton materials available for both bodies and clothes if preferred. High-quality polyester stuffing is provided for the bodies and embroidery threads in a range of colours for facial features.
  • In addition, a treasure trove of trims, beads, buttons, velcro and ribbons is available to use to add that extra special touch.
What to bring
Due to copyright requirements from Studio Seren, you are required to purchase your own pattern for any of the full-sized dolls from the Studio Seren pattern range on their website.
  • All equipment and materials are provided. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own machine, scissors, pinking shears, pins, thimble, etc., and fabrics from your fabric stash if you wish.
  • Tea/coffee will be provided but you will need to bring your own lunch.
