Join us for a festive and fun traditional French Bûche de Noël cooking class, where you’ll learn to make this classic holiday dessert from scratch! In this hands-on class, we’ll guide you through each step of the process, from baking the perfect chocolate sponge to crafting elegant decorations. By the end of the session, you’ll take home your very own Bûche de Noël, ready to impress family and friends.
What You’ll Make:
  • Chocolate Sponge Roulade: Learn how to make a light and airy chocolate sponge, perfect for rolling without cracking, to form the base of your Yule log.
  • Strawberry Jelly: Create a sweet and tangy strawberry jelly filling that adds a burst of fruity flavour to your Bûche de Noël.
  • French Meringues: Master the art of making delicate French meringues, which we’ll use for decorative touches to bring a festive feel to your dessert.
  • Chocolate Ganache: Whip up a rich and creamy chocolate ganache, infused with Cointreau for a hint of citrusy flavour, to fill and layer your cake.
  • Chocolate Glaze: Prepare a smooth and shiny chocolate glaze to coat the outside of your log, giving it a beautiful, polished look.
  • Assembly & Decoration: Finally, we’ll assemble all the components and show you how to decorate your Bûche de Noël with festive touches, including meringue mushrooms, edible holly, and more.

Owner and Pastry Chef - Janet Newton
The passion for baking and cooking started in childhood for Janet Newton. The long Christmas holidays she spent baking with Czechoslovakian family friend, Irene. During this time the family was provided with an endless supply of traditional tarts, slices, biscuits and cakes.
The wonderful love of sharing food with family and friends was born out of these one on one cooking lessons and is the inspiration behind the opening of The Yellow Door Kitchen.
Janet trained as Pastry Chef at the famous Le Cordon Bleu cooking school and has many years’ experience working in restaurants and patisseries. Her ability to combine flavours and her passion for baking is infectious and will ensure students are transported into a wonderful, creative world of cooking during her classes.
