Sip on Christmas cocktails in New Farm
Christmas and cocktails go together like… peanut butter and jam. They’re good by themselves, but even better together. This year, raise a glass to the trials and triumphs of 2024 at The School of Everything in New Farm.
Their popular Christmas Cocktail Masterclass is back, complete with a complimentary glass of bubbles, a generous grazing table and everything you need to make eye-catching holiday cocktails. Perfect for team building or the annual work Christmas party, this workshop also runs as a private event for groups of 10-25 – you just need to request a group class.
Oh, and while you’re in the area, be sure to pop into Agnes Bakery to pick up some treats. Want more festive inspo? Check out these Santa-approved Christmas events in Brisbane.
What the locals say:
“This class was SO much fun. It was a Christmas gift for my mum and we had the best time. The venue was beautiful and comfortable and it was so easy as everything was provided. The garnishes and drinks themselves were delicious and super simple to replicate at home, and the ladies who taught were funny and easy going. Love love love.” – Georgia Corcoran
Weave a wreath in West End
Join Mikiko of Kent Floristry for a festive wreath-making workshop in the eclectic inner city suburb of West End. You’ll craft a one-of-a-kind 50cm wreath to hang on your door, complete with all the trimmings. Be quick – there’s only one date left, so secure your spot today.
What you’ll get:
- All of the Christmas accoutrements you could possibly need to make the DIY wreath of your dreams. We’re talking succulents, sphagnum moss, wreath base, juniper, Christmas leaves, berries, pine cones, dry flowers, Christmas balls and decorative ribbons.
- A bottle of water and a box of Japanese snacks to fuel your creativity. Yum!
Make macrame decorations in Newstead
Okay, so it’s not technically a Brisbane city Christmas event, but we have to lift the lid on this alternative craft workshop in Newstead. Gather your family or friends and head to Bottega Haus for a festive macrame class, run by the team at Ivy Trove.
You’ll learn to make four boho-inspired decorations, including a snowflake, bauble, message in a bottle and Christmas tree feather. Working with 100% recycled cotton cord, you’ll personalise your designs using a collection of coloured wood and clay beads. (No more garish decorations from the Christmas shop!)
During the school holidays, you can even bring your little ones for free. The cherry on top? You can nibble on complementary grazing platters and you’re encouraged to BYO. Win, win!
Cook festive plant-based creations
Vegan, vego or omnivore, you’ll love this tasty workshop from the team at Wholesome Bellies. Every year, they bring back their much-awaited festive masterclass, teaching Brisbanites the basics of plant-based cooking – with a celebratory twist.
You’ll learn to whip up several ‘hero’ dishes you can prep ahead of time, meaning less time in the kitchen and more precious moments with family and friends. Wholesome Bellies’ classes are perfect for beginners: recipes are simple and only require a few key ingredients. (Why over-complicate things?)
Over three hours, you’ll learn to make five nutrient-packed meals and leave with a printed recipe book so you can recreate each dish at home. And of course, there’ll be a festive feast to enjoy at the end of the class.
What's on the menu:
- Vegetable-loaded lasagna with homemade sauce and vegan béchamel
- Italian stuffed tomatoes, filled with rice and served with roast potatoes
- Mushroom bruschetta with white bean puree
- Rocket, apple and pomegranate salad
- Chocolate panna cotta with berry coulis
Decorate cute cookies like a pro
One of our fave Brisbane city Christmas events? Cookie decorating! Nothing screams “Noël” like spiced cookies – especially when they’re shaped like stars, candy canes and reindeer. Join master baker Rach Feng in Bowen Hills and learn to ice, paint and decorate sweet treats like an expert. Not much of a baker? Don’t sweat the small stuff. With Rach as your teacher, you’ll be in good hands.
After starting out at home, the Brisbane local entered the cookie competition at the International Cake Show Australia and – drumroll please – she won! Whether you choose to decorate beautiful cookies laced with white or make entire family of festive characters, there’s nothing like a baking class to spark Christmas spirit.
Keen to venture out of Brisbane city centre? This festive cookie decorating workshop in Jimboomba is well worth the drive.
