Lesson 1: Introduction to Acrylic Paints, Mediums & Colour Theory
Students will learn:
  • Characteristics of acrylic paints and mediums
  • Brush handling
  • Colour mixing
Students will paint an abstract design on canvas (based on colour theory)
Lesson 2 & 3: Introduction to Composition and Design
Students will learn:
  • Rule of thirds
  • Balance
  • Contrast
  • Light & Shadow
Students will paint a still life on canvas
Lesson 4 & 5: Advanced Techniques
Students will learn:
  • Perspective
  • Composition
  • Palette knife
  • Layering
  • Glazing
Students will paint a landscape, seascape, or cityscape on canvas

What to bring
Materials:
  • Primed stretch canvas x3 off – 12" x 16" (305mm x 406mm)
  • Acrylic paint set: Primary Colours (warm red, cool red/ warm yellow, cool yellow/ warm blue, cool blue/ + black and white)
  • Acrylic brush set: Round size 2 / Round size 6 / Filbert size 10 Flat size 14
This is the basic list. However, you can extend this list by using larger canvases or bring a full set of colours or a full set of brushes. Make sure your canvases are gesso primed already (painted white and ready for painting). If unsure, ask your supplier.
Session repeats

This class series runs over 8 consecutive sessions, at the same time every week.
