Join Sonja for a guided contemporary painting workshop that celebrates the unique beauty of Australian native flora predominantly from the South Australian Fleurieu region at the Beautiful Fleurieu Arthouse!
This is a fun workshop that will awaken a love of colour and painting and give you an experience and real skills as you complete your own, original artwork.
Locally sourced, you will draw your inspiration from a seasonal still life on the night with favourites that can include the red flowering gum, Proteus, native eucalypt varieties, stringy bark blossom, bottlebrush, and many more over the seasons!
Sonja will walk you through a process using charcoal to draw our images and then complete the piece with acrylic paint on canvas to create a contemporary original artwork you take home.
Toast the night with a variety of Hardy’s wines, some superb kiln-fired pizza from Oscars Restaurant, McLaren Vale, local nibbles, and some food for thought to really make the evening special!
Great for beginners and the accomplished creative. All materials are provided, just bring your enthusiasm and love for art and the Australian bush!
Note: Tickets include all materials, Hardy’s Wine, and Food (gluten-free options available on request).

My name is Sonja Maclean and I am a visual Artist and Teacher.
With a love of colour, my aim is to inspire, bring joy, laughter and radiate Light through my work.
I currently have 2 studios at the Fleurieu Arthouse in McLaren Vale, South Australia where I display my artwork as Sonja Maclean ART. One studio is for my creating my own artwork, primarily acrylic works on canvas and the other for Teaching adult students weekly.
I am formerly trained and have spent many years in Adelaide and the Northern Territory as an Arts administrator, Arts Officer, Arts Manager, Festival Director, TEACHER and of course an Arts practitioner (artist) I have a career spanning 40 years in the Arts.
I have always been inspired by the regional flora and fauna of the places Ive lived or been called to and the Fleurieu is no exception.
My work depicts people, stories, the communities and lives of those living in often remote or ‘special’ places, where the natural, nature, has lived and breathed. Where the stars are brighter, the Moon is larger. Where the trees glow and creatures and people stir in the night, at dusk and at twilight. Where stories colour the nature of a community, tell its history or talks about its creation. Places untouched and nurtured for many thousands of years and beyond.
I love sharing my love of Art to anyone who is drawn to creating and teaching techniques that not only get them started but enable them to produce quality artwork.
I have a BVA and Cert. 3 in Assessment and Training.
I have worked with both children and Adults, ongoing.
I was responsible for Arts development prior to and with Country Arts SA and teaching on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunyjatjara Lands SA for approx 10 years.
I was Arts Manager, Central Australia with Arts NT for almost 7 years where I assisted artists and creatives with arts grants and regional arts development based at the Araluen Cultural Precinct
I have run team bonding sessions, large group Art events, music events and The Alice Springs Festival, in Year of the Outback 2001.
I have been featured in news articles, reviews, radio and TV and a variety of Arts publications over the years.
At the end of the day...I LOVE ART! I look forward to working with you on your arts journey
You can also find me on Google Business 'Sonja Maclean Art' as a 5 Star rated Teacher.
