Hey, I’m Emilie, the one-woman-wonder behind Emilie Flora, and I am beyond excited to share the colourful world I have created! Creativity has always been at my core, but my love for fiber arts really ignited 13 years ago when I discovered crochet. I was completely captivated—how could twisting yarn with a hook create such intricate, beautiful fabrics? It was like magic! This newfound obsession led me to pursue my passion at university, where I earned a First Class Textiles degree. I specialised in Constructed Textiles, diving deep into knit, weave, and crochet. But the real game-changer came when I was introduced to the knitting machine during my time at university. After years of hand-knitting and crocheting, this machine opened up a whole new world of possibilities! I spent countless hours experimenting with different fibers and techniques, and before I knew it, I had developed a style that blends bold colours with playful patterns. I love how distinct machine knitting and hand-crocheting are, and I’ve had so much fun combining the two to create truly unique fabrics.
Fast forward to now and I have been running Emilie Flora for 6 amazing years! My degree gave me the technical foundation to turn my passion into a business, and the best part? I get to share all of it through my work and workshops!
My crochet workshop experience is vast, from assisting at creative workshops as a teenager to my university internship and running crochet workshops at homeless shelters. More recently, Emilie Flora has taken me on tour during the summer months, where I run workshops and trade at some of the biggest art and music festivals in the UK, including the legendary Glastonbury Festival. It’s at these festivals that my love for teaching truly blossomed. With up to 40 attendees at once, the energy and creativity are contagious, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Guiding so many people through the magic of crochet is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
I absolutely love teaching because it allows me to share the joy I have found in crochet and knitting. These art forms, once fading, have made a beautiful resurgence, and I’m proud to be part of that revival. The most rewarding part of teaching is seeing my students light up when they discover a new skill they can cherish for life. Watching them leave my workshops excited to share what they’ve learned is incredibly fulfilling. It’s amazing to be part of a community that’s helping keep these timeless crafts alive and thriving.
I have had the privilege of teaching hundreds of students, and it’s an honor to be part of their creative journeys. From large workshops to intimate sessions, I have witnessed the power of crochet to connect people, spark joy, and create lasting skills. Doing what I love, sharing it with others, and watching these crafts thrive is a dream come true!
