Discover the fundamentals of singing in a supportive group environment. This eight-week beginner singing course is designed to help you develop vocal technique, gain confidence, and refine your voice through structured exercises and performance practise.
The first four weeks focus on essential techniques, including breath control, pitch accuracy, vocal projection, and tone quality. The second half of the course shifts towards performance skills, musical interpretation, and stage presence. By the final session, each student will have the opportunity to present a solo piece of their choice.
More than just a group singalong, this course provides structured vocal training comparable to private lessons. Each session blends technical exercises with musical concepts, allowing for practical application and group singing. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, receive guidance, and develop their voices in a dynamic and engaging setting. Susannah Lawergren

Susannah Lawergren

Susannah has been a professional singer for around 15 years and is a principal artist with The Song Company and Bach Akademie Australia. She has taught privately over that time and currently teaches at St Scholastica College alongside a busy freelance performing life.

Susannah trained in classical technique at the Sydney Conservatorium then joined the Song Company, a 6-singer professional vocal ensemble. She very quickly needed to learn how to healthily sing in a large range of styles, including pop, jazz, Renaissance polyphony, contemporary Australian music - even quarter-tone singing! With the Song Company she has taught educational workshops in schools and universities and coached emerging artists and worked with composers learning how to write for the voice.
Susannah enjoys working with students keen to discover and nurture their individual voices and musical ideas across a range of styles, teaching them how to sing in an energised, supported way, developing the voice holistically and systematically, and helping to find good practice strategies to keep learning outside the studio.
